BEM aims to ensure its institutional users and the wider community access—direct, appropriate, and as extensive as possible—to its book collections, information and documentary resources relevant to the disciplines served, as well as to its services, in accordance with the Library Service Charter (ITA) and the Service Regulations (ITA).

To this end, BEM preserves and develops its collections in both print and digital formats; organises and delivers qualified, technologically advanced library services in support of teaching and research; and promotes collaboration with the wider community, in line with the principles of the Third Mission.

The Library’s holdings comprise over 280,000 volumes, arranged along approximately 8 kilometres of shelving, and cover the fields of economics, management, economic law, economic history, economic geography, social sciences, mathematics and statistics applied to economics, and commodity sciences.

The Library’s organisational model is based on a process-oriented approach aimed at enhancing staff expertise, with particular attention to performance evaluation and user satisfaction.

BEM adheres to national projects such as SBN, ILL-SBN, ACNP, NILDE, ESSPER.
