Cultural activities and third mission

The Third Mission constitutes a strategic area aimed at integrating and expanding the activities traditionally carried out by academic libraries in support of research and teaching. Openness to the local community seeks to strengthen relationships among academia, schools, institutions, and enterprises, fostering the social, cultural, and economic development of the community.

Within the framework of the Third Mission, BEM designs and promotes the following programmes:

  • #BEMchelegge: a programme dedicated to the promotion of reading, with particular attention to issues related to the public domain;
  • #BEMdigitale: a programme aimed at fostering digital knowledge and promoting the ethical and responsible use of information;
  • #BEMsostenibile: a programme focused on promoting the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda;
  • #cresciallaBEM: a welcome and orientation programme addressed to students from schools of all levels and grades;
  • #iosonoBEM: a programme aimed at opening the library to the local community and enhancing awareness of the role and functions of academic libraries.

The Library also organises guided tours for groups, upon request, in either Italian or English. The tours present the history, collections, services, and projects of BEM, with particular emphasis on initiatives addressed to the local community.

Visits may be booked by writing to eventi.bem@unito.it or by contacting +39 011 6704986.
