The collection consists primarily of monographs and serial publications dealing with legal subjects. Most of the volumes date from the period between the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, with a predominance of works published in Italy, mainly in Turin and Milan. The topics addressed span a wide range within the legal sphere, from private law to criminal law, and from commercial law to international law. Several works by prominent Italian authors of the period are present, as well as some of German origin, translated and published in Italy. Many volumes belong to important series or collective works, indicating a structured collection intended for specialised study.

Main thematic areas:

  • Private and civil law: This is the most extensively represented area, with treatises on contracts, suretyship, obligations, family law, and civil law in general.
  • Commercial law: Volumes addressing topics such as negotiable instruments law, bankruptcy, and other matters related to commerce.
  • Criminal and procedural law: Works on criminal procedure, offences, and the general principles of criminal law.
  • International and comparative law: Some volumes deal with private international law and comparative analyses of different legal systems.
  • Public finance and tax law: To a lesser extent, the collection includes works on taxation, fiscal matters, and public finance.
  • Social sciences and legal history: Volumes offering historical or sociological perspectives on legal phenomena, such as legal history and criminology.

Documentary and historical value:

The collection shows a high degree of thematic coherence, being almost entirely focused on law. Chronological coherence is also significant, with most works covering a period of intense development in legal codification and scholarship in Italy and Europe. Its relevance for academic and specialist research is considerable, as the collection represents an important testimony to the development of legal doctrines in Italy between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It includes works by classical authors of the period and authoritative editions. The presence of several serial publications further enhances the collection’s value for the study of legal publishing output of the time.
